Starting ENTYVIO Infusions

Hello. I’m new to the C&C community and looking for advice from people who have experienced ENTYVIO infusions.

I’m a 50-year-old male. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis 17 years ago. I was on Lialda for 12 years with sporadic success (e.g., continuing pattern of remission for a while and then a flare-up).

I was diagnosed with moderate-to-severe Crohn’s a few months ago. I took Apriso for several weeks, but the medication did not improve my symptoms. My gastroenterologist then switched me to budesonide. After a few weeks without relieving any symptoms, I was prescribed prednisone. I took 40mg daily for two weeks. Once again, the medication did not improve my symptoms.

I had several labs performed and the decision was made to start ENTYVIO infusions. My first infusion is Monday with an initial dosage of 600mg. I will receive my second infusion (200mg) two weeks after the first appointment and the third infusion (200mg) four weeks after the second appointment.

I have had colitis for 31 years now. I started Entyvio 7 years ago. Sounds like you are at the loading stage of the medication. I have to get the infustion every 8 weeks and I cannot remember my dosage. It is very expensive and takes quite a bit of time out of my day when I need it. The good thing is Entyvio has a program where they will pay for whatever you insurance does not.

Now, on to how it works. It has been the most effictive so far in reducing my sysmptons and it is the closest I have ever been to remission. I still have some pain and discofort once in a while, but nothing majore. No urgency at all anymore. I tend to be a little constipated, in the sense that I might not have a bowl movement for 3 to 5 days. The doctor is working on this.

I am ready to try something else just because it is not a houndred percent, the cost, the time, and I do have some of the minor side effects.
