Drinking Water

Wed, May 02, 2012 2:28 PM

I seem to have a terrible time with drinking water on an empty stomach. I had small bowel resection surgery about 20 years ago. I am on no meds right now. I know that I have some diseased bowel and probably some scar tissue also. I don't battle too many things thankfully but drinking water on an empty stomach is bad. Does anybody else battle this? I get a big gas buildup and then it just won't pass. I can take Phazyme over the counter and take some Prednisone for it. I normally have to lie down and manually massage or push on the built up gas pockets to get them to move. I know that we all need to drink water to survive. I just wanted to know if anybody else experiences this for if someone had any ideas. I can pretty much drink, tea, coffee, soda, sugar-free kool-aid and they don't bother me. Thank you.

Drinking water is not available in some areas of the world, and I think using a outdoor water filter will make drinking water available there. I think most people will agree that these filters should be used.

I drink water all day long.  I do have a lot of gas also but haven't associated it with water.  The water seems to help me feel better and is often the only liquid I can tolerate except for Gatorade.  The important thing is not to let yourself become dehydrated. You don't have gas with sodas?  I can't tolerate anything carbonated. It seems we all have different sensitivities.  I appreciate your comments on how you treat the gas buildup.

This is really interesting to me, as I feel like drinking as much water as I can helps to flush out my system and actually alleviates my symptoms! I guess everyone is just super different in terms of their side effects and the way they manage their symptoms. Do you get really thirsty in between meals? And would your stomach be okay if you just had something super super small when you were drinking? or would it have to be a full meal for you to feel ok?

I didn't mean to ramble on or confuse anybody. I was just looking for others that have gas buildup issues with drinking water. I know that we need to drink water to live healthy. Personally I have issues with drinking water on an empty stomach. It causes gas buildup then the gas will not pass through my small intestine until I can manually push it through and take anti-gas meds. I was just wondering if anybody else has issues with water like this. Thank you.

I feel like I might know what you are talking about. Although, I'm not totally sure. I just notice that when I drink water on an empty stomach, even during the day, I have reflux of just water. Right after I drink it too, I mean it refluxes up my throat and I can feel that the water is still cold. Interesting...I'll be doing some research on why this is.
